Mission Trip to Manaus Brazil

September 2003

Irene Wesely of The Father's House joined forces with Global Awakening, the ministry of Randy Clark and went to Manaus Brazil. God moved miraculously on many people.  Irene prayed for one lady, pictured below, which had, had cancerous tumors all over lower abdominal area.  The lady was actually dripping on the floor and smelled of death.  Irene prayed the pray of faith and the woman was healed.  Irene also shared about other miracles she saw on the trip such as blind eyes and deaf ears being opened, and a man coming out of a wheel chair.  You can read more about the trip in three reports below written of Bill Dew.

A TEAM COMES TOGETHER IN A FAR-AWAY PLACE--THE AMAZON

The reports are starting to come out regarding the
just completed missions trip to Manaus, Brazil. Those
reports will give you the statistics, but I thought I
would give you some of the flavor of the trip as well.
Carol and I were leading a team of 16 other people, 12
of whom were from our church in Vacaville. Three were
from other churches we have ministered in and three
from Alaska. We had to feel for the Alaska guys as
they started at 8 PM Saturday, arriving at 8 AM in San
Francisco before we joined them for our 1 PM flight.
When we arrived at the hotel in Manaus on Monday
afternoon, we had been traveling for 29 hours.
Missions trips aren’t all glamour.  There  we joined
50 others from all over the US, had lunch and got a
little rest to prepare for the first meeting that
night with Gary Oates. Gary and his wife, Kathi, had
come over from Londrina, while Randy continued the
meetings there.

PLOWING HARD GROUND TO YIELD THE FRUIT

The last two years, Randy had ministered in this
church, which has grown dramatically, so that now it
is reported to be approximately 48,000 strong. The
healings had been dramatic and the supernatural
happenings like right out of the Book of Acts. This
year, it was like the enemy was ready, and as the week
went on, got madder and madder. Once again, the right
team prevailed, however. Gary began by telling his
testimony of how God had surprised him last year, and
how he had been taken into the heavens and had then
been able to see into the angelic realm. What showed
up so glaringly as an indication of the spiritual
battle we were in was how much trouble the translator
was having translating Gary’s message .  We knew that
night the team was plowing hard ground to get ready
for a harvest to come later in the week. Tuesday saw
the team start to bond by taking a Amazon River tour.
While we had seen some healing and power the previous
night, it was on this night that it started to break.
We had 268 healed just during the singing of "Agnus
Dei" and after Gary talked about the Glory of God,
another 33 were healed! It was a great night and the
whole team had fun. Then, Wednesday morning Gary
taught on the healing model and Words of Knowledge For
Healing. One of the team members from North Carolina
had such a specific word for her first one. She saw a
woman in a hammock, with a red rose and she had
breathing problems.  A woman responded with that exact
description. She had such severe problems that all she
could do after awaking in the morning was lie around
in a hammock. Her church had given her a red rose to
comfort her, while the doctors had given up on her.
After prayer, she was completely healed. Oh, and the
woman who prayed for her--the day before she got her
prayer language while on the Amazon River tour.
Amazing. God can work anywhere.

RANDY SHAKES UP THE PLACE, AND THE PASTOR "PASSED THE
TEST"

Randy then came in from Londrina to do the evening
meeting. We saw a lot of healings that night and the
power level definitely went up. The hard plowing Gary
and the rest of the team had done was paying off. But
it was the next night, on Thursday, when all heaven
broke loose. This church has grown dramatically over
the past few years. But they have not been known as a
missions church. That may be changing. When Randy took
the platform, he began speaking on "Spend And Be
Spent." This message is about "selling it all for the
Kingdom." He began by saying he had just read an email
from a YWAM leader in Iraq. It said in effect that he
hoped the Americans would send missionaries there, but
the first ones there were the Koreans and Brazilians,
two countries which had seen the greatest revival. He
told the congregation we were going to take up another
offering. You should have seen the look on the face of
the associate pastor who was translating. This was not
usual. It would have been so easy for him to whisper
to Randy that they just couldn’t do that. He didn’t
yet understand that Randy wasn’t talking about giving
money, but about giving your life for the advancement
of the Kingdom. But he continued and Randy told him
"he had passed the test." Randy told them that if they
were willing to leave their family, their church ,
their city, their country and go where the Lord would
direct them, then they were to come to the platform.
The platform floor was a checkerboard of dark and
light colors, and Randy told them to come stand on one
of the dark squares. They tried, really they did. But
the power of the Lord would sweep over them and the
rest of the congregation, drawing them to the
platform, trying valiantly to stand. They would shake
and then crumble to the floor. What was so amazing was
that no one got hurt. There had to be at least 200
people who had answered this call. We got to minister
to them and then pray for healing the rest of the
night.

AMAZING HEALINGS FROM TWO "LITTLE OLE ME’S"

There were so many things that happened over these
first few days that it was hard to keep track. But I
am familiar with a few things that happened thru the
team that we had accompany us. One of our women came
with much excitement, knowing she was to be there. But
she’s not on our church prayer team, hasn’t done this,
hasn’t traveled to a foreign country, and was
excitedly nervous. All she did was pray for a woman in
the bathroom who had an issue of blood and two days
later she gave her testimony of her healing. As she
hugged our team member, another woman had her come
pray for her same condition. In fact her condition was
so severe that there was evidence of blood in her
chair. She ended up praying with another team member
from North Carolina and the woman was healed. Another
of our tem members prayed for a woman who came in a
wheelchair, had a scar going from high up on her
thigh thru her knee and ending just above the ankle.
After a couple days of prayer, she came out of the
wheelchair, then came off the crutches and walked
unaided all around the church, up and down the aisles.
Amazing. All God is looking for is yielded vessels who
will say "yes" to Him. And I hope you caught that it
was after repeated prayer. We all want it to happen
instantaneously, but sometimes it takes persistence
and "soaking."

On Friday morning we shifted slightly, with Carol and
me taking over the morning teaching. I’ll report more
tomorrow. Blessings.

FORTY-FIVE MINUTES TO TEACH DELIVERANCE?

Friday morning in Manaus was our turn to begin
teaching. Carol was faced with the daunting task of
teaching in 45 minutes what she normally takes 3+
hours to teach. But it was amazing how God
orchestrated everything. The Associate pastor who was
to be there woke up with a bad throat. He called Vera,
who had been translating, but she was at the doctor’s
because she knew she wouldn’t be translating that day.
But just by coincidence (no, I don’t believe that),
there was a woman there who is a missionary. She was
American, but you’d never know it. Her Portuguese was
perfect, and what’s better, she was very understanding
of what we were saying. I have to feel sometimes for
these translators, as we Americans talk in so much
slang. The teaching went off without a hitch and then
Carol led them in a group prayer to confess sins in
the areas of body, soul and spirit. We then had about
10 minutes for the team to pray for impartation before
the busses had to leave. Now, you may be asking
yourself "can anything really come from a short simple
prayer said over someone with the laying on of hands?"
Well, all I know is our friends, Bill & Barbara
Cassada who traveled with Randy before we did, got
just such a prayer of about 2 minutes from Pablo
Bottari. And they walked away with a tremendous
anointing for deliverance that they had not previously
had.

PASSION FRUIT CREAME--YOU GOTTA’ TRY IT

I’m going to deviate now from the statistics, the
meetings, the teachings because I said I wanted to
bring you a little flavor of what the trip was like.
For lunch we went for the first time to a
"chuahascaria"(I don’t know how to spell it but that’s
the way it sounds). It’s a kind of restaurant in
Brazil where they bring you all different kinds of
cuts of beef, chicken and pork. They are our favorite
restaurants down there, and Randy’s too. Now you have
to know that Randy grades these restaurants on a
desert called "passion fruit crème." There are two
Brazilian young women who work with Tom, the
international coordinator for these trips. They had
gone specifically the day before to question the owner
about his desert. They spent 5 minutes on the subject,
making sure he had this dessert and could do it
properly. Well, it was a case of Brazilian saving
face. They don’t seem to know how to say "no, I can’t
do that" or "no, I don’t have that." And they didn’t.
You should have seen Randy’s face when they finally
had to tell him at the end of the meal that there
would be no "passion fruit crème." I’m thinking about
the owner--you just lost 66 people for tomorrow, but
he must have been a good salesman because we came back
on Saturday. This time they were semi-ready, but they
couldn’t make it right. As we were walking out of the
restaurant, they brought out the perfect "passion
fruit crème." I don’t know if Randy was satisfied, but
I sure liked it. You know, you’ve got to have some fun
on these trips.

FALLING ALSEEP, THE POWER OF GOD FLOWS THRU HIM

Over half of the team had never been on one of these
trips before. I know for our 16 people, only one had
been to Brazil and only one other had ever been on a
missions trip. Many came wondering if God would use
them. They had all heard the stories of the miracles
that had happened in this church. But God is faithful
when we just stick out our hands and say "come, Holy
Spirit." A young man from North Carolina was a perfect
example of this. He told of praying for a paralyzed
young man. It was late Friday night, he felt no
anointing, and he actually almost went to sleep while
praying. Sounds like just the guy you want praying for
you, right? Well, he must have been because all of a
sudden the young man bolted out of the wheelchair and
started hugging and kissing the prayer team member. He
had felt the power of God suddenly go thru him and he
was completely healed!

"GOD’S ABOUT TO WAKE YOU UP!"

Saturday morning was my time to teach.  It was
interesting to see the enemy rear its ugly head. I
went to bed not feeling so good, we were awakened at
3:30 by one of our team members who needed Carol, and
we definitely didn’t get enough sleep that night. But
I was ready to talk on "Out of the boat, into the
miraculous." God had shown me that when I go to a
certain point in the story, I was to call out a man
and pray over him the same thing I had prayed and
prophesied over a young man in Fiji two years ago. God
used him powerfully to heal an 80 year old man who was
described as "stone deaf" for ten years, three days
later. As I went into the meeting, I felt like God
showed me the man, but when I began speaking he was
gone. Did I miss it? But then he returned. Just as I
got the point when I would call him out, I noticed he
was about to go to sleep. Without thinking I heard
myself say "God’s about to wake you up" I then
proceeded to pray and prophesy over him from the
platform, while one of our team members stood behind
him. The power of God not only hit him, but also our
team member catching him. The y both went down with
the Brazilian man lying on top of the American. That
was fun.

THEY MAY NOT KNOW HOW TO "BE STILL," BUT THEY ARE
PASSIONATE

That night Randy came to the meeting with a phrase
ringing in his head "All that I have is yours." He
constantly referred to that thought as he gave the
message on "Coming out of the bunkhouse." It was a
pretty typical evening. We went for words of knowledge
and more than 150 were healed. Salvations were well
over 500. He took testimonies and the theme that ran
thru them was "I was scheduled for surgery, but now
the doctor has said I don’t need it and has canceled
it." That’s a good report!! Then Randy would turn the
team loose and we got to pray for 1 ½ hours before
being taken off for a late night meal and then back to
the hotel. The next morning always comes quickly, and
this Sunday morning did too. In Brazil they have their
regular church service in the evening, but we had
scheduled a training meeting with Gary teaching. He
began by saying "we have put the horse before the
cart. We’ve talked about power, but it’s only thru
intimacy with the Father that we are to operate." It’s
everything we’ve been talking about for the past 10
years about the Father’s love, but we’ve been so busy,
busy. At the end of the teaching Gary wanted them to
enter into the presence of the Lord and just soak.
Just be with Him. He invited everyone to get on their
faces before the Lord, or to lie on their backs and
just bask in His love. He was trying to encourage a
time of "be still and know that I am God." If you’ve
ever been around the Brazilians, you know they are
passionate people. Many times when you pray for them
they will shake violently, fall to the floor, and
their feet are going a mile a minute pounding on the
floor. Well, we started out quiet, but soon the
passionate cries and shaking would sweep from one side
to the other of this large auditorium. I have to be
honest, I was thinking "they didn’t get it about being
still before the Lord." Then someone told me that they
were actually repenting for not seeking His face  and
intercession would sweep over the group. Ok, maybe
they did get it.

CAROL’S GETS HEALED--MINE DOESN’T.

Carol and I were sitting down in the white plastic
chairs, just enjoying being with Him and knowing that
soon we would be going back to the hotel for  lunch.
Two people came to us for prayer--a man who had severe
problems with his eyes who Carol prayed for, and a
lawyer who was partially deaf, who I prayed for. Now,
I had seen very little healing thru me so far on this
trip. God was doing something else thru me, I knew
that, and I was mostly ok with that. I had, however,
determined that I would mostly pray every night for
the deaf mutes in the church. And here I had a deaf
man presented to me--he was just dropped in my lap.
The thought crossed my mind "this is a setup by
God--this man’s gong to get healed." We only had about
15 minutes to pray and unfortunately, the man walked
away unhealed as far as we could tell. Carol’s man
with the severe sight problems? When he opened his
eyes, she could hear the man and the interpreter
talking in Portuguese, but she started to recognize
her name. He was reading he nametag. Something he
definitely couldn’t do before the prayer!! Way cool.

Now, we had one night left. Carol and I and a team of
three others were scheduled to do a meeting at another
church in the late afternoon, and then we would join
Randy and the rest of the team back at the big church
for the last meeting. I’ll report about that later.

MEMORIES AND REFLECTIONS

Sunday night, our last night in Manaus, Brazil. It’s
been a great and interesting week of ministering in
this 48,000 member church that is one of the fastest
growing churches in Brazil. A team of 60+ people have
come together from all over the US. There have been
laughs. On the Amazon River boat tour there was a
Brazilian chiropractor who works on Randy every time
he comes here. Several of the team members had him
work on them, not expecting the neck cracking a
chiropractor does. Then, there was the look of
disappointment on Randy’s face when he was told there
was no “passion fruit crème” dessert at the restaurant
Friday. I taught the two Brazilian young women who
work with the Global Awakening team down in Brazil
some southern slang. They told Randy they had to go
back to the hotel because they were “beat dawg
tarred.” (Beat dog tired for all you non-southerners).
There was sweat. Every day the intercessor team would
climb the 18 story prayer tower to pray. Lots of
steps, no AC, hot and humid, soaked shirts and
blouses. But they did it every day. Gary sweating on
the platform (they didn’t turn on the AC during the
morning sessions). There were tears. Many of the team
members cried with the Brazilian people when they were
healed and when they weren’t. The woman with the issue
of blood and the team member who prayed for her
embracing, the woman who passed the tumor out of her
body hugging her prayer team member. And frustration.
One of the wonderful things about going on a trip with
Randy Clark is you get to pray for lots of people.
It’s really a hands-on experience. This team came to
pray, and it was agonizing to pull them away when the
busses arrived to take us out. I’ll remember one young
team member’s anguished face as I told her we had to
go and she didn’t want to leave the Brazilian she had
been praying for.

THE HEALINGS COME

In Brazil they have their regular Sunday service in
the evening, so the team was looking forward to the
last night which was anticipated to completely fill
the church building—10,000 people completely filling
every available space, even the aisles. Carol and I
had been asked to lead a small team to another church
for a late afternoon service and then we would join
the rest of the team. I had seen very little healing
during the week, realizing that God was doing other
things with and thru me. I also knew this was the
night—I just knew it was going to break. We arrived at
this “church with no walls.” There was a concrete
floor with a tin roof. It would seat about 800, with
another 700 possible when they could cram into some
stone bleachers around the facility. We figured there
were between 600-700 people on this afternoon, and
when we arrived they were full on into worship. Randy
had kiddingly told me in front of the pastor two days
earlier that we couldn’t come back until at least 200
people were healed. Two people reminded me of people
who I’ve known to be powerfully touched by God so I
called them out and prayed for them from the platform.
They went down and shook and vibrated on the concrete
floor for the next 45 minutes. Ok, the power’s here,
so we went for words of knowledge. We made sure
several times that they understood us and we got an
accurate count, and at the end of the prayer over
them, 201 had been healed. We brought 9 people up who
had their problem for 5 years or longer and they
demonstrated they could now do what they couldn’t do
before. Since they were known to this church, it
raised the faith level. Later, I felt God was telling
me to go for eyes so we had all who had eye problems
of any kind stand and lay hands on their eyes. Another
95 indicated they experienced improvement in their
condition. Ok, 293 out of 700—we can go to the big
church now. But first we wanted to pray for
everyone—and every one of them wanted prayer from our
little team. I have to admit, it was chaotic. They
were used to lining up in a column, coming up to the
front and receiving a hand on the head as a prayer and
then dismissed. They really struggled with the concept
of lining up in rows so we could lay hands on each
one. But, you know, somehow it worked and we got to
pray for each one. I think what encouraged us most was
the children. They would go down under the power of
God and wouldn’t move for many minutes. And children
around the world are the same—they don’t
fake anything. It was a great night, but now it was
time to rejoin the team.

WHEN YOU CAN MINISTER WITH THE LOVE, MERCY AND
COMPASSION OF JESUS, NOTHING’S IMPOSSIBLE

Decently and in order is not a term that could be used
for what we encountered when we walked in. Randy had
all the terminal cases, deaf, blind, etc. on the
platform and the team was praying for them while he
continued to preach. I frankly don’t know what he was
saying as we all just dove in and started praying.  By
the end of the night, I had a big “AHAAA!!” I’ve known
this, I’ve even taught this, but now I lived it. God
has been speaking to my heart about this and I have
heard many leaders speaking about this lately. It’s
this: the power and the anointing and the gifting are
great—but it’s all about LOVE. That’s what Jesus was
all about and He’s our model. It’s so easy to see
people—especially when you do meetings and pray for so
many people—as just another person to pray for. It can
become a numbers game. On the other hand, if you
become so emotionally involved, the toll can be
devastating if they don’t get healed. So, there’s a
fine line to walk. But it’s still all about LOVE.

A friend of ours, who trains prayer team people, heard
God say to her one time as she was about to minister
to someone on the line “I will allow you to touch my
creation.” When you get hold of this concept, prayer
ministry becomes an awesome privilege, and a huge
responsibility.  What if we all grasped the concept
that God is looking for willing vessels so He can
duplicate in them what He would be doing if He was
still here. As we come into intimacy with Him, as we
get His heart, He pours His love, mercy and compassion
thru us, and miracles will happen. He said so!

Toward the end of the night, the person who had been
doing the signing for the deaf came to me with one of
his deaf friends. I had purposed in my heart to pray
for the deaf almost every night, even though I hadn’t
seen much results. This man, probably in his 30’s, had
been deaf since 5 years old. He had an infection,
there had to be surgery, and the doctor had made some
sort of mistake. The first thing I did was to cover
any unforgiveness issues. After many minutes of prayer
with only slight improvement, I just felt the Lord say
to hug him. As I did, I started heaving inside with
emotion—and yes, it surprised me. This was not normal
for me. But since I had talked from the platform just
the day before about being willing to step out of your
comfort zone if you want to see miracles, I shouldn’t
have been surprised, huh? The man became quite
emotional as well, and we just hung on to each other
for about 5 minutes. It was just one of those pure
moments when the love and compassion of Jesus flowed
thru me and I didn’t care about anything else but this
man. I’ve often said something I once heard: “the
anointing flows where the eyes of compassion focus.”
When we parted, I asked him thru the interpreter what
was happening to him. It was then that he indicated
that he could hear!! His ears had popped open and he
could hear as plainly as you or me. He was also mute,
but he was able to say his first words in a squeaky
voice-- “Yea sue es bon” (Jesus is good). Amazing!!
For me, it was the whole trip.

SAN BRUNO, CA NEXT

It was great to be back in Brazil—land of miracles,
God’s power, anointing, passion, and unequalled
revival. It was fun to see some old friends and make
many new ones. It was great being with Randy again,
and once more coming under the corporate anointing he
carries that is sooooo strong. It was fulfilling to
take a team and see them blossom. At the same time it
was sobering to know we have an enemy who hasn’t
stopped fighting. But I look at the victories on this
trip and know the final outcome. We’re back home now
and are looking forward to the next ministry
opportunities and to encourage the saints with the
many stories of healings and miracles from Brazil.
Next weekend we will be at Crossroads Christian Center
in San Bruno, CA—across from the SF Airport. This is a
great church that is hungry and eager to get soaked in
the river. If you’re in the area, we’d love to have
you Friday night and all day Saturday for prayer
ministry training. Blessings.
